THE BOTTOM LINE:
Savannahs can be PRICEY!
Pricing....it does get a bit confusing for buyers, but here's a layman's way of looking at how Savannahs are priced.
Here is an easy way to remember it.
The closer the African Serval cat is in the kitten's pedigree, (i.e. sire, grandsire, great grand sire) the more expensive, exotic, and bigger the cat will be.
The high prices are reflective of the difficulty in breeding these cats, getting a queen to carry a litter to full term, and a higher infant mortality in kittens.
How Much Does A Savannah Cost?
The price of a Savannah will vary depending on the quality of the individual kitten or cat.
The following are estimated and "average" price ranges:
Estimated Savannah Kitten Pricing
When comparing pricing, it is important to recognize that pricing is not based on generation alone.
In generation pricing is dictated by generation, TICA Code, sex, and over all quality. Further monetary consideration is charged for breeding rights and discounts are typically given for nonstandard color (blue, cinnamon, chocolate, snow, calico) or other physical faults that do not affect health.
Males
F1: $5,000-$6,000
F2: $4,500-$6,500
F3: $1,800-$3,500
F4: $1,500-$3,500
F5-F7: $1200-$4,500

Females
F1: $7,500-$8,000
F2: $4,500-$6,500
F3: $1,500-$3,500
F4: $1,000-$3,000
F5-F7: $1000-$2,500 |

So an F1 means they are kittens sired by an African serval.
F2 means that one of the kitten's parents are Savannah, but their grandfather is an African Serval.
F3 means there are two Savannah parents, but there is still a great grand father that is an African Serval in their pedigree
and so on and so on. With each increasing foundation number the kitten is one generation further removed from the African Serval.

The higher the number beside the F (which stands for filial)
i.e. F1 through F8's and up you will usually see the pet price go down for pets
as the kittens are usually not as large in size, not as exotic looking, and are not as close to the African Serval in breeding.
The concept is to breed pure bred Savannahs,
eventually using no African Servals, but many people like the exotic look that is produced with the F1's and F2's so they continue to be produced.
Savannah breeders goal is to ultimately make it to SBT to be considered a "purebred cat" and worthy of advancement to Championship class in TICA,
but there is this fertility issue with males so breeders ALSO have to keep an eye on generation of the males and possibly even the Serval % of those males.
F2 through F4 Savannah males are considered infertile, and F4 and F5's are unreliable as far as fertility so
it has been difficult for Savannah breeders that have had to back up and address the fertility issue in Savannah males.

As more Savannah to Savannah pairings take place, and more and more Savannah males
are fertile, breeders will hopefully be able to set better breed type in the lower % generations of
Savannahs (meaning those with less African Serval in them) and develop an exotic looking, yet reasonably priced kitten.
It's been a lot of work to get the Savannah breed to where it is today,
thus the prices still reflect that long, difficult journey.
